A complaint has been filed with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) regarding the incident in which Gen Z activist Majid Ansari was assaulted and taken into police custody.
The Gen Z Movement Alliance filed the complaint against the government, the home administration, and the police on Monday.
The Alliance has lodged the complaint against the police team stationed at the Kirtipur holding center who assaulted Ansari on Saturday, as well as against Ojaswi Thapa, who claimed to be a representative coordinated and sent by the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Thapa is accused of directing and mobilizing the police on the day of the incident.
The complaint also alleges human rights violations in contravention of Articles 16, 17, 20, and 22 of the Constitution. It specifically mentions that Ansari was beaten and taken into custody in violation of the rights to freedom of thought and expression, the right to assemble peacefully without arms, and the right to live with dignity, among others.
The Alliance has submitted video footage of the incident, along with medical reports from Kirtipur Hospital and Tribhuvan University (TU) Teaching Hospital, as evidence.
Ansari is currently undergoing treatment at TU Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj.
