Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane has been released after submitting a total of Rs 37.48 million.
Lamichhane was released on Friday after submitting a bank guarantee equivalent to Rs 37.48 million at the Rupandehi District Court in Bhairahawa, according to Padam Aryal, the court’s information officer.
On Thursday, a bench of Judges Basudev Acharya and Tej Narayan Paudel at the Butwal bench of the Tulsipur High Court had granted bail to Lamichhane. The bench had also set certain conditions while issuing the order.
In his petition seeking release, Lamichhane had stated that he would submit an amount equivalent to his share of the claimed amount, which was Rs 27.48 million. The high court accepted this amount and ordered his release.
Earlier, on January 26, a bench led by Judge Prahlad Kumar Yogi of the Rupandehi District Court had ordered Lamichhane’s on a bail of Rs 10 million for trial. The high court ordered him to deposit that amount as well.
"Lamichhane had previously submitted a bank guarantee worth Rs 27.4 million. He verified that today. He has now been released after also submitting an additional Rs 10 million bail," said Aryal, the district court’s information officer.
Thus, Lamichhane submitted two different bail amounts, totaling Rs 37.48 million.
