The United States government has deported 75 more Nepali citizens.
On Thursday, 75 Nepali citizens were deported and brought to Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu via a chartered flight. The deportees include three women.
Upon their arrival, a team from the Anti Human Trafficking Bureau of Nepal Police questioned the deportees.
Among those deported, two had entered the US on visit visas. The others had reached the US via "lower routes" (illegal border crossings), according to Senior Superintendent of Police Krishna Pangeni, the bureau chief.
"Those who reached America via lower routes were found to have spent at least Rs 2 million. Some were even found to have spent up to Rs 10 million," he said.
Among the deportees, one individual had lived in the US for up to 30 years.
The deportees were found to have been held in US detention for up to seven months.
In the past seven years, 666 Nepali citizens have been deported from the US. The majority of these occurred after Donald Trump was elected US president.
"The data clearly shows most deportations happened after the Trump administration took office," he added.
Since the Trump administration began, 409 men and 30 women have been deported.
