The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed an appeal in the Supreme Court against those acquitted in the corruption case related to the purchase of wide-body aircraft.
The Special Court had acquitted 22 individuals, including former minister Jeevan Bahadur Shahi, in the corruption case.
CIAA spokesperson Rajendra Kumar Paudel said that the commission filed an appeal in the Supreme Court on Tuesday as it was not satisfied with the verdict.
According to Paudel, the CIAA had filed a case against 32 individuals, including former minister Shahi, on April 4, 2024, alleging corruption amounting to Rs 1.47 billion in the procurement of wide-body aircraft.
On December 6, 2024, four employees of Nepal Airlines Corporation, including the then general manager Sugat Ratna Kansakar, and seven foreigners from the seller company, totaling 10 individuals, were convicted in the corruption case, while all others were acquitted.
According to spokesperson Paudel, the CIAA filed the appeal with the Supreme Court, stating that the Special Court had partially convicted some defendants and acquitted others, thus not imposing the punishment that the CIAA had demanded in the case.
