Nepal Police has decided to stop making photographs of accused individuals public.
The Police Headquarters in Naxal has issued a circular to all subordinate police offices, instructing them not to publicize photographs of accused individuals from now on.
According to Deputy Inspector General Binod Ghimire, spokesperson for Nepal Police, the circular has been sent to all offices.
“As questions related to human rights also arise when photographs of the accused are made public, it has been decided to stop making such photographs public,” he said.
Inspector General of Police Deepak Thapa had agreed to stop the practice during a coordination meeting held at the Office of the Attorney General sometime ago, Ghimire added.
“The decision was made since the organization’s chief himself agreed during the meeting to discontinue this practice,” Ghimire said.
