The Kathmandu District Court has ordered the release of journalist Dil Bhushan Pathak on a bail of Rs 25,000.
A bench of Judge Khemraj Bhatta issued the order on Thursday to release journalist Pathak on bail.
Pathak is preparing to post the bail amount on Thursday itself.
The Cyber Bureau of Nepal Police had submitted its investigation report on Pathak to the District Government Attorney's Office on June 27.
Three days later, on Monday, the District Government Attorney's Office filed a cybercrime case against Pathak at the Kathmandu District Court.
Over a month ago, Pathak had published a video report on Hilton Hotel and Jaybir Deuba, son of Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, on his YouTube channel “Tough Talk with Dil Bhusan Pathak.”
The video, titled “Reality of Hilton Hotel and Jaybir Connection,” was published on May 16.
Following a complaint about the video, the Cyber Bureau obtained an arrest warrant for Pathak for investigation under the Electronic Transactions Act.
The district court faced criticism for allegedly overstepping its jurisdiction in issuing the arrest warrant.
On June 19, the Patan High Court ordered that Pathak not be arrested. The court stated that since complaints about content published by journalists can be filed with the Press Council, there was no need to investigate Pathak for offenses under the Electronic Transactions Act.
Earlier, on June 16, the Patan High Court had issued a short-term interim order prohibiting Pathak's arrest.
It has not been disclosed who filed the complaint against Pathak. The complainant’s name has been changed in the charge sheet.
