Rebika Khatri, who was injured by police gunfire during a violent protest by royalists in Tinkune of Kathmandu on March 28, has been discharged from hospital after 81 days.
She was discharged from Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) on Monday.
Her father, Tulsiram Khatri, said that she was discharged with instructions to return for follow-up every three days.
"The leg that was shot has been grafted, and she can stand if supported by hand," he said. “But she can't walk yet.”
According to him, Rebika’s leg is gradually improving, but doctors have said that it will not be the same as before.
Tulsiram said that she underwent treatment at Civil Hospital, Manmohan Cardiothoracic Vascular and Transplant Center, and TUTH. More than one million rupees have been spent on her treatment so far, he added.
"She was brought to Teaching [TUTH] on may 17. We stayed here for a month," he said. "Around 250,000 rupees were spent here alone. We haven’t included our personal expenses in that."
Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak earlier met her and assured that the government would cover the expenses for the patient and one attendant. Based on this assurance, Tulsiram is hopeful of receiving a refund for the 250,000 rupees spent at TUTH.
Earlier, she was admitted to Civil Hospital, where over 800,000 rupees were spent. However, that amount has not yet been reimbursed, Tulsiram said.
"We have already submitted all the bills to the hospital. We were told the process was underway, but we haven't received anything yet," he said. "At least follow-up visits don’t require additional treatment costs now."
