Durga Prasai and six others have been sent to prison in the case related to the incident that took place in Tinkune of Kathmandu on March 28.
A bench of Judge Dhruba Raj Karki of the Kathmandu District Court on Thursday midnight ordered Prasai and six others to be remanded in custody. Following the court’s order, they were sent to Dilli Bazar Prison at midnight.
The court ordered 32 others to be released on bail.
Superintendent of Police Apil Raj Bohara of the District Police Range, Kathmandu, said that the seven individuals were sent to prison on Thursday midnight itself.
The court remanded Prasai—who is accused of being the mastermind of the Tinkune incident—along with Gokarna Shahi (accused of setting fire to a house), Saroj Gautam, Dandapani Regmi, Keshav Basnet (who was found vandalizing CCTV), those involved in arson at the Herbs Production and Processing Company in Jadibuti, and those who vandalized and set fire to vehicles.
Royalists took part in a protest called by Prasai, who was designated “People’s Commander” by the “Joint People’s Movement Committee”, in Tinkune of Kathmandu on March 28. The protest was organized demanding the restoration of monarchy, reinstatement of Nepal as a Hindu nation, and abolition of federalism.
Two people died that day as the protest turned violent, leading to incidents of arson, vandalism, and looting.
