The District Police Range, Kathmandu, has completed its investigation into the violent pro-monarchy protest that took place in Tinkune of Kathmandu on March 28 and submitted its report to the District Government Attorney's Office.
According to Gokul Bahadur Niraula, spokesperson for the District Government Attorney's Office, Kathmandu, police submitted the report on Thursday.
Police have recommended prosecuting 108 individuals in connection with the incident.
Currently, 53 people are in police custody on different charges. Among them, 26 are being investigated for sedition and organized crime, and 27 others for criminal mischief.
Meanwhile, 37 others have been released on personal guarantee. They include Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Senior Vice-chairman Rabindra Mishra, and RPP General Secretary and lawmaker Dhawal Shumsher Rana.
Police have also recommended prosecuting Mishra, Rana, and Durga Prasai.
According to Niraula, police have recommended filing charges against Prasai for five offenses, including organized crime, attempted murder, sedition, and criminal mischief.
Similarly, police have recommended prosecuting Mishra and Rana for sedition and criminal mischief.
Nine individuals involved in the incident are absconding. Niraula said that the identities of some of those recommended for prosecution have yet to be confirmed.
Among those recommended for prosecution, four are minors.
The District Government Attorney's Office will now review the police report before filing formal charges at the Kathmandu District Court.
The number of defendants may increase or decrease based on the police’s recommendations, and the government attorney may also instruct the police to conduct further investigations against some if deemed necessary.
According to Niraula, the deadline for filing charges is May 28. However, he said that preparations are underway to register the case as early as Sunday.
Once the case is registered in court, hearings will take place to determine whether the defendants should be detained for further investigation or released.
