The Kathmandu District Court has extended the remand of 25 individuals, including Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Senior Vice-chairman Rabindra Mishra, arrested in connection with the Tinkune incident, by five days.
According to Superintendent of Police Apil Raj Bohara at the District Police Range, Kathmandu, the court on Thursday granted permission to keep Mishra and 24 others in custody for an additional five days for investigation into charges of offenses against the state, organized crime, and criminal mischief.
The court extended the custody of 27 others, who are being investigated only for criminal mischief, by seven days, SP Bohara said.
Currently, 52 individuals are in police custody at the District Police Range, Kathmandu.
SP Bohara said that two individuals charged with offenses against the state and 34 others charged with criminal mischief have been released on personal guarantee.
A protest organized in Tinkune of Kathmandu on March 28 turned violent, leading to incidents of vandalism, arson, and looting. Durga Prasai, who was designated commander of the protest, is also in police custody.
As the arrested individuals are being investigated for organized crime, among other charges, the police can keep them in custody for up to 60 days according to law.
