The driving license of the Nepali youth killed in a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, India, has been recovered.
On Tuesday, a terrorist group killed 26 people in the tourist area of Pahalgam. One of the deceased has been confirmed to be a Nepali national.
According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sanjeev Sharma, stationed at the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi, the deceased Nepali has been identified as Sudeep Neupane from ward no. 14 of Butwal Sub-metropolitan City.
Neupane’s driving license was found at the scene of the attack, which helped confirm his identity.
The District Administration Office and the District Police Office of Rupandehi have initiated further procedures following confirmation of Neupane’s death in the attack.
According to reports, Neupane was shot dead by gunmen. Neupane had gone to Jammu and Kashmir with his mother, sister, and brother-in-law for a vacation on Saturday.
Pahalgam, known as "Mini Switzerland," is a popular tourist destination located about 90 kilometers from Srinagar. Officials said that rescue operations were challenging since the area is only accessible on foot or horseback.
A group called The Resistance Front has reportedly claimed responsibility for the attack.
Authorities described Tuesday’s attack as one of the deadliest attacks on civilians in the region in recent years.
Following the incident, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has cut short his visit to Saudi Arabia and returned to India.
