The country has processed over 10,000 PCR tests in a day for the first time on Friday with 10,768 tests done in the past 24 hours.
The government has recently expanded the scope of PCR testing with the rise in threat of infection. The daily testing was limited to around 4,000 last week but testing was gradually amped up with the rise in infection.
Health Minister Bhanubhakta Dhakal had promised to conduct 10,000 tests a day by June end but to no avail. The ministry had pointed that testing was scaled down as the number of people returning from abroad has fallen while the people in quarantine facilities have also mostly returned home.
But the experts have been urging the government to increase testing pointing that risks have soared after end of the lockdown.
A total of 375,416 PCR tests have been done in the country until Friday.
