A 65-year-old Indian man who died while undergoing treatment at the Narayani Temporary COVID-19 Hospital Gandak in Birgunj Sunday morning has tested positive for COVID-19.
Medical coordinator at the hospital Dr Udit Narayan Singh said the Indian national who ran a shop in Birgunj had died at around 6:45 Sunday morning. His test returned positive result later on the day.
He was down with fever and cough for the past five days, according to a family source.
He was first admitted at the emergency ward of Narayani Hospital where his swab was collected and then to Birgunj Health Care. He was then taken to the Gandak Hospital Saturday evening after he tested positive in rapid diagnostic tests there.
"He had respiratory problems when he was admitted. We put him on oxygen and then on ventilator Saturday night after his condition deteriorated. He breathed his last Sunday morning," Dr Singh said.
He also suffered from heart problems and diabetes, according to the hospital.
Three persons including two women had succumbed to COVID-19 in the Gandak Hospital in Birgunj last week.
This is the 46th COVID-19 death in Nepal and the second foreign national after that of a Chinese woman at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital last week.
