A Chinese national undergoing treatment at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) has died on Wednesday.
TUTH Director Dr Rohit Paudel confirmed with Setopati that a 58-year-old Chinese woman has died of COVID-19. "She was hospitalized yesterday evening. She died this morning," Dr Paudel said.
She was referred to the TUTH by Grande Hospital where she was admitted after a heart attack. She had tested positive while in Grande.
"Her body is in hospital now. Funeral is set to be done by the Nepal Army in presence of the Chinese Embassy officials."
She had heart conditions and died due to problems in her heartbeats. "We were treating her keeping her in non-invasive ventilator. We were to shift her to general ward today. But she died suddenly due to abnormal heartbeat," Dr Subash Acharya who was involved in her treatment said.
Director of Grande Dr Chakra Raj Pandey said the woman was in critical condition when she was brought to the hospital but her condition had improved recently, and she was shifted to the TUTH only after she tested positive on Tuesday as per the government protocols. He revealed that she had returned from Pokhara before her heart attack.
This is the first death of a foreigner in Nepal due to COVID-19.
