The population of Nepal has crossed 30 million.
The Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) in its website has put the country's population at over 30 million on Friday. It was 26,494,504 in the 2011 Census.
Communication Officer with the CBS Tirtha Raj Chaulagai told Setopati that the CBS calculates the current population adjusting for the birth and death rates, and the rate of migration on the 2011 Census data.
"We use the formula used world over," he stated. "It would be evidence-based to say the population of Nepal is 30 million from today."
He explained that the formula for calculation by CBS uses the data of the last Census and that before. "We have not counted people to reach the 30 million figure. But we can now say the population is 30 million."
He revealed that the CBS is running pilot project for the next Census scheduled for 2021. National Census is held every 10 years in Nepal.
