The Health Ministry has instructed hospitals to refer patients only after consultation with the hospital they are referring the patients to.
Issuing a notice, the ministry pointed that patients have been suffering when the hospitals arbitrarily refer them to other hospitals. "Our attention has been seriously drawn to the fact that patients are forced to go to 2-4 hospitals for treatment, and some have even died in lack of timely treatment," the notice reads.
It has, therefore, instructed the hospitals to refer patients to other hospitals only after consultation with the hospital they are referring the patients to. "This notice has been issued to everyone including the hospitals, doctors, health professionals, patient party and guardians as per the secretary level decision of the Nepal Government taken on June 16 to ensure that hospitals and doctors refer patient only after direct consultation with the hospital and doctors the patient is being referred to."
