The COVID-19 Crisis Management Center (CCMC) has projected COVID-19 infection in Nepal to peak in June and July.
The experts of the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division and Nepal Army (NA) doctors have made the projection on the basis of international trends. "Our study using mathematical models has showed that infection will peak in June and July," NA doctor Navin Phuyal said during a press conference organized by the NA. "This projection may not be completely accurate but we have to make preparations accordingly."
Pointing that even the developed and powerful countries have failed to accurately project the course of pandemic, Major Phuyal added that cases are rising in Nepal as the scope of testing has been expanded. He, however, stressed that the situation in Nepal has not been as bleak as was feared despite the recent upsurge in cases.
The CCMC has also submitted the framework for the plan to repatriate Nepalis staying broad. "We have submitted the plan to manage Nepalis returning from India and other countries to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli," NA Spokesperson Bigyan Dev Pandey said. "We have been told that it has reached the Cabinet through the High Level Coordination Committee for Prevention and Control of COVID-19. The final action plan may come now."
He revealed that a total of 2,290 NA health personnel have been deployed in quarantine facilities and isolation wards, and added that the force is also helping in spraying disinfectants, collection of swab and management of dead bodies.
