Nepal has reported the first death due to COVID-19 with a new mother in Sindhupalchowk district succumbing to the virus.
The Health Ministry has confirmed death of the 29-year-old woman from Ramche in Bahrabise municipality, Sindhupalchowk issuing a statement Saturday night.
The woman was brought to the Dhulikhel Hospital after respiratory problems. The hospital says she breathed her last while being taken to the emergency ward. She was brought to the hospital on Thursday.
She had a delivery at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) nine days ago and returned home. She was taken to Dhulikhel after suffering respiratory problems at home.
The hospital had collected swab from her and PCR test confirmed that she was suffering from COVID-19.
Her has been brought to Pashupati Aryaghat for cremation Saturday night.
A team of Nepal Army and Nepal Police brought the body to Kathmandu Saturday night, according to chief of Kavre Police Ravi Kumar Paudel. "We have sent the body on a hearse. Army and police escorted the hearse," Paudel said.
