Seventeen persons from a single family in Birgunj have tested positive for COVID-19 taking the total number of infected persons in Nepal to 99.
The 17 including a two-month kid were all confirmed to have been infected by the National Public Health Laboratory in Kathmandu, according to Spokesperson with the Health Ministry Bikash Devkota.
Mayor of Birgunj Bijaya Sarawagi told Setopati that all 17 are members of the family of a man who tested positive on April 26. The man is a metropolis staffer. "They are all members of a family. But who the members have yet to be revealed," he added.
He revealed that the two-month kid is baby of the man who tested positive on April 26.
Swab of the family members of the man from Chhapkaiya were sent to Kathmandu for testing after he tested positive. The metropolis said the man may have spread it to many others as he was also involved in distributing relief materials to over 1,200 persons.
"The number of infected persons can, therefore, be far higher. But the government has not sent adequate kits," Sarawagi stated.
