Former president Bidya Devi Bhandari has said that she remains affiliated with the CPN-UML and that no one can take away her membership.
Addressing a press conference at Karki Banquet in Baber Mahal, Kathmandu, on Friday, Bhandari said that her membership has been renewed and she is still affiliated with the UML.
The UML has been saying after the central committee meeting that Bhandari’s membership has automatically become inactive.
However, Bhandari said that she rejoined her parent party, the UML, after successfully completing her tenure as president and returning as a citizen.
When journalists asked what she would do now that the UML has barred her from rejoining party politics, she did not provide a clear response.
"Some matters are internal issues. I have renewed my membership now, but I have been a party member for 45 years. People’s leader Madan Bhandari administered my oath in Biratnagar. No one can take away my membership just because they feel like it," Bhandari said, targeting UML Chairman and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.
She said that after completing her presidential tenure, she wanted to dedicate the rest of her life to playing a role in an organization and, accordingly, renewed her membership with her parent party, the UML, following due procedure.
"My membership cannot be stopped by mob," she said.
She also said that the party operates according to system. "I am still affiliated with the UML," she reiterated.
