Devotees thronged Shiva temples across the country, including the Kathmandu Valley, since early morning on the second Monday of Shrawan.
The Doleshwar temple in Bhaktapur also saw a large number of devotees since morning.
It has been raining in the Kathmandu Valley since Sunday night. Despite the rain, devotees visited Doleshwar for worship, carrying umbrellas.
Doleshwar is believed to be the head of Kedarnath.
During the Shrawani Mela, held every year from Shrawan to Bhadra, hundreds of thousands of devotees visit Doleshwar to worship Lord Shiva.
Shrawan, the fourth month of the Nepali calendar, is dedicated to Lord Shiva, with Mondays considered especially auspicious for worshiping him.
Hindu women visit temples and shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva in Shrawan. Many married women and unmarried girls observe a fast on Mondays and also abstain from meat consumption the whole month.
It is believed that visiting Lord Shiva's temples and worshiping him in Shrawan, especially on Mondays, washes away one’s sins and brings peace and prosperity in life.
