The government seems set to extend nationwide lockdown.
The high level coordination committee for control and prevention of COVID-19 Saturday reviewed the lockdown and concluded that it has been effective. The committee deemed that it is not time to relax the lockdown, a minister who participated in the meeting told Setopati. The latest extension of lockdown ends on April 27.
"There have been suggestions that it should be relaxed in the mountainous regions but the Cabinet will take a call on that," the minister added.
The committee has formed a task force under Chief Secretary Lok Darshan Regmi to prepare modality for the lockdown. The task force includes secretaries of different ministries and chiefs of security agencies.
"It will evaluate all the factors and also refer to international experiences. The task force will prepare proposal about what to do on that basis," the minister added. "The task force will submit the proposal to the Cabinet meeting."
Prime Minister (PM) KP Sharma Oli during the Cabinet meeting on Friday had instructed the committee to prepare modality for lockdown.
The government, meanwhile, has decided to extend shutdown of domestic and international flights until May 15
The committee meeting has decided to extend the shutdown, that was to end on April 30, until May 15, according to Secretary Narayan Bidari.
