Foreign Minister Pradeep Gyawali said those walking to home during the lockdown will be kept at the local body where they have reached from Sunday.
He informed that the local body concerned will provide accommodation and food to them during a video conferencing with editors of different media houses on Sunday.
He claimed that workers walked to home as the local bodies did not effectively distribute relief materials in the beginning, and due to uncertainty about how long the lockdown will be extended. "There were a few problems in distribution of relief materials in the beginning. The psychology of going home and doing farming instead of staying at times of such crisis may also have been in work."
He revealed that relief materials have been distributed to 631,022 households until now.
Prime Minister (PM) KP Sharma Oli on Friday had instructed to stop people from walking back to home during the nationwide lockdown.
PM Oli during the discussion with high level coordination committee to fight COVID-19 pandemic and Cabinet ministers at Baluwatar ordered to make arrangements of food for those facing problems instead.
The committee had proposed two alternatives to PM Oli to address the plight of those walking back to home during the nationwide lockdown
It presented making arrangements for accommodation and food for them wherever they are now as the first option. The committee headed by Deputy PM and Defense Minister Ishwore Pokharel presented the other option of safely ferrying them to their respective district headquarters and then handing them over to the local bodies.
Minister Gyawali revealed that a total of 27,000 persons have been tested until now including 8,000 PCR and around 18,000 rapid diagnostic tests. "We plan to do 100,000 PCR tests within a few days."
