Fourteen new infections have been detected in a single day on Friday taking the total number of persons infected with COVID-19 in Nepal to 30.
Twelve out of 16 persons in a mosque in Bhulke, Udayapur and two in Chitwan have tested positive, according to the Health Ministry.
Chief Minister of Province 1 Sher Dhan Rai has told Setopati that the 12 men infected in Udayapur are all Indians. "I have just been informed from Kathmandu. We have information that they are Indians," Rai said. "We will now start contact tracing."
The 16 persons in the mosque are understood to have reached Udayapur via Morang, Sunsari and Saptari districts a month back.
Chief District Officer (CDO) of Udayapur Deepak Kumar Pahadi told Setopati that the mosque currently has 16 persons including 12 Indians. "They are in a big hall of the mosque. We have been observing them."
Swab of all 16 persons were sent to Koshi Hospital on Wednesday for test.
Two men of a single family in Rapti municipality of Rapti have also tested positive on Friday. They had returned from Britain via Hong Kong.
