Former king Gyanendra Shah has pledged Rs 20 million to the government fund to fight coronavirus pandemic.
Delivering a message Tuesday evening, Shah has said he will give the amount through the trust opened in the name of his daughter-in-law Himani Shah.
"This pandemic has created threat and fear in the country and people. It has become essential for all of us to contribute from our respective places and in accordance to capacity becoming sensitive to the initiatives taken to defend human existence," his message states. "We all understand that lockdown is compulsory and also understand that nobody has freedom to become irresponsible in its compliance."
He has also expressed gratitude to the health personnel including doctors, nurses and others, and the security persons of Nepal Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force (APF) for working round the clock without considering the threat to their life, and the media for providing the right and timely information at the time of pandemic.
