SC starts hearing petition challenging govt decision to ban entry of Nepalis abroad

The Supreme Court (SC) has started hearing on the writ petition challenging the government's decision to shut down border points and ban international flights preventing Nepali nationals abroad from returning home on Wednesday.

A bench of Justice Dambar Bahadur Shahi has started hearing on the petition.

Advocates Mina Basnet and Madhav Basnet registered the petition on Monday.

They have argued that the government by banning entry of citizens to their country instead of looking for them and making arrangements for treatment after rescuing them has violated the fundamental rights and human rights of every Nepali staying abroad, and accused it of treating the Nepalis abroad as animals.

"We have moved the honorable court with this application as our conscience did not allow us to remain mere spectator to such insensitive and illegal behavior," they have argued in the petition.

The government on Sunday had decided to shut down all border points with India and China for movement of people for a week starting from Monday. International flights were stopped effective from Sunday night.
