Former president Bidya Devi Bhandari has written to the Ministry of Home Affairs stating that she will no longer avail herself of any facilities except security.
Bhandari sent the letter to the ministry through her personal secretary Raj Kumar Rai, stating that she would give up the facilities effective from Wednesday, her secretariat said.
A Home Ministry source said that Bhandari sent the letter, mentioning that she would not avail herself of any facilities other than security from now onward.
Bhandari, who served two terms as president, recently returned to active politics in the CPN-UML. She has already renewed her party membership.
The government provides former presidents with a monthly allowance, house rent, fuel, newspaper expenses, telephone expenses, hospitality expenses, electricity, water, and internet expenses, as well as a secretariat (including an under-secretary, driver, and office assistant) among other perks and benefits.
Former president Bhandari had not availed of the residential and vehicle facilities.
After completing her presidential term, she has been residing in her private home in Bhangal, Kathmandu.
