A British national of Nepali origin is languishing at the deportation unit of the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) for the past four days.
The man who arrived on a Nepal Airlines flight from Hong Kong on Saturday was not allowed in as he had a foreign passport. He is currently at the deportation unit of immigration office at the TIA.
"He is a foreigner. We have, therefore, banned entry of a foreigner," Chief of the Immigration Office at the TIA Sagar Acharya told Setopati.
He pointed that it is up to the Nepal Airlines to decide whether to keep him or send him back. "The airlines concerned should take all responsibility including food as it brought him. We can only block their entry," he argued.
He revealed that the immigration is currently making all the arrangements including food for the person.
The Nepal Airlines, on the other hand, blamed the immigration for the problem. Acting Managing Director Ganesh Bahadur Chand attributed the problem to the immigration's discriminatory policy of allowing some persons in and stopping others.
"We could have sent him to Singapore on a Silk Air flight if the immigration had not stopped us that day," Chand stated. He claimed that the Nepal Airlines brought the person after repeated requests from the airport staffers in Hong Kong.
"What can the Nepal Airlines do now when they stopped him from going back?" he questioned.
He opined that the person is now the responsibility of immigration and added that all the arrangements including food should be done by the immigration.
