The Shukraraj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital in Teku will only treat suspected COVID-19 patients.
Hospital Director Dr Sagar Raj Bhandari said the hospital will now only handle suspected coronavirus cases and HIV infected patients from there will be transferred to Bir and Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH). "We are referring almost 40 patients from here to Bir and TUTH. We will send all of them by the end of Sunday," Dr Bhandari stated.
The anti-rabies vaccine service provided by the hospital will also now be provided by the Kathmandu District Public Health Office.
He said the hospital is expanding isolation wards and add 17 intensive care unit (ICU) beds as per the government decision to make special corona hospital at Teku. "We will complete putting ICU beds today. The hospital will have 20 ICU beds and 25 isolation beds after that."
The government had instructed six hospitals in the Kathmandu Valley to prepare 20 ICU beds.
