Contractor Manoj Bhetwal, who had collected money for the shutters he had illegally built at the Open Air Theater, has surrendered a month after an arrest warrant was issued by the Patan High Court.
Bhetwan surrendered at the Metropolitan Police Range, Teku at around 8:30 Tuesday morning, according to spokesperson there DSP Habindra Bogati.
The court had issued an arrest warrant against him for banking offense. "We will now move the investigation forward taking him in remand," DSP Bogati stated.
Bhetwal is an A-grade contractor and his company Jaleshwore Swachhanda Bikoi Builders has been contracted to build the view tower at the Old Bus Park. He was also involved in Apex Bank fraud case.
The government in April 2019 had to demolish the shutters he illegally built at the Open Air Theater and started to rent them following widespread condemnation
The Kathmandu Metropolitan City claimed that the company owned by Bhetwal was only handed over the responsibility of managing the bus park shifted to the Open Air Theater. The company was given permission to build just a canteen, waiting space for passengers and a toilet but it built 51 shutters and rented 40 of them. There were ticket counters for buses in the remaining shutters.
