Rape-accused Krishna Das Giri, known as Siddha Baba, has surrendered to the Sunsari District Court on Tuesday.
Giri, who had absconded to India on January 23 in anticipation of being again sent to judicial custody by the Biratnagar High Court, reached the court at around noon Tuesday. "We have sent him to Jhumka Jail immediately after he came to the court," acting registrar at the court Nidhi Ram Dahal told Setopati.
The Biratnagar High Court was hearing his case when Giri fled to India. A bench of Chief Justice of the Biratnagar High Court Til Prasad Shrestha and Justice Prem Raj Karki had ordered to send him to judicial custody revoking the order of Sunsari District Court to release him on bail of Rs 300,000 after he fled to India.
A bench of Judge Radha Krishna Upreti on December 30, 2019 had released him on bail stating that there is no evidence to establish that he raped a disciple.
The District Attorney Office had lodged a case charging him of raping a female disciple.
Giri was taken to the court from the intensive care unit (ICU) of hospital for recording statement. He had been staying at Birat Nursing Home citing poor health. He was arrested from ICU of the same hospital on December 2.
