A Nepali national stranded in the COVID-19-stricken Diamond Princess cruise ship docked off at Yokohama, Japan has been brought to New Delhi Thursday.
The Air India plane that went to rescue Indian nationals marooned in the ship has also rescued the Nepali national. The chartered flight with 119 Indians and five foreigners including the Nepali arrived at New Delhi Thursday morning, according to the Indian Ministry of External Affairs.
Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar informed that the foreigner included two Sri Lankans, one Nepali, one South African and one Peruvian nationals. The identity of the Nepali national has yet to be revealed.
Those rescued from the cruise ship will be quarantined in Haryana.
The ship was put under quarantine by Government of Japan on 5th February for 14 days until 19th February as one of the passengers who had disembarked from the ship had tested positive for COVID-19. The quarantine period was later extended.
A total of 704 persons in the ship have been infected by the virus while four have died due to the illness.
