The administration has imposed curfew in Birendranagar and the surrounding areas after the protest after death of a youth hit by a tipper on Tuesday turned violent.
The meeting of security committee in the evening imposed curfew from six in the evening till six Wednesday morning. The curfew will be imposed from Itram river in the east of Birendranagar to Bangesimal in the west, Kapase Barrack in the north and 500 meters south along Ratna Rajmarga, according to Surkhet Distrct Administration Office.
Keshar Singh of Dillikot in Mahawai rural municipality of Kalikot district was killed when the tipper (Bhe 6 Pa 2178) hit a motorcycle (Bhe 1 Kha 2242) from behind at Gautam Chowk along the main road of Birendranagar at around 8:15 in the morning.
Birendranagar remained tense throughout Tuesday after the accident. The market remained closed while vehicular movement was stopped. Protesters resorted to vandalism and smashed CCTV cameras installed in the market area.
Police opened fire after protesters pelted stones at them and six persons have been shot. They are being treated at the Surkhet Hospital.
