The bill related to elderly (first amendment) has been passed removing the provision requiring deposit of 10 percent of one's monthly income in the bank account of parents.
The bill has been passed unanimously by the Women and Social Committee under the House of Representatives (HoR) on Sunday.
Chairman of the committee Niru Devi Pal said the bill has been passed after discussion over a long period of time. The bill after removing the provision has added one authorizing the local body to extract necessary amount from the children if there is problem in the livelihood of parents, and hand that over for their care.
The ward chairman can also ask the children to deposit a certain amount in the account of parents if something has to be done for livelihood of the parents.
The bill also has provision for starting skills center at the local level for skill training and transfer of knowledge from the elderly.
