An Indian national has been arrested wit
h Rs 3.60 million of unaccounted money.Satya Narayan Prasad, 57, of Bettiah, Bihar has been arrested by the Metropolitan Police Circle, Kalimati on Sunday.
The police team was looking for Prasad, who lives in a rented apartment in Kuleshwore, Kathmandu-14, after tipoff that he was dealing in Indian currency and hawala trade. DSP with Kalimati Police Circle Rugam Kunwar said Prasad has been arrested with the money from the rented apartment.
The police team recovered Rs 3.60 million and IRs 119,000 in cash, six checks worth Rs 3.705 million, check-book of six different banks and a cell phone from him. DSP Kunwar revealed that Prasad has been living in Nepal for the past 30 years.
The police believe the unaccounted money is being used for hawala and are preparing to send him to the Department of Revenue Investigation (DRI).
