At least six persons have been killed and many injured when a passenger bus coming to Kathmandu from Maga Deurali of Dolakha plunged into Sunkoshi river near Sukute Sunday afternoon.
The bus (Ba 2 Kha 7245) of Shailungeshwore Yatayat veered off the road and plunged into the river at around 1:15 in the afternoon, according to Sindhupalchowk Police.
DSP Madhav Kafle said five bodies have been recovered from the river while one person succumbed to injuries while being taken to the hospital for treatment. The victims have yet to be identified.
"The death toll can rise. We are continuing search and rescue," DSP Kafle added.
The ill-fated bus was carrying around 40 passengers. Bus driver Dhan Bahadur Tamang swam out of the river and fainted on the bank. Tamang and six other passengers have been sent for treatment.
