The Surkhet District Court has extended judicial custody of the seven persons arrested on charge of pushing cows and oxes taken to Dailekh from Nepalgunj over the cliff in Birendranagar by seven days.
The police on Friday had arrested truck drivers Shatrughan Chaudhary, Damodar KC, Sagar BK, Bibek Kunwar and Him Bahadur GC, and helpers Amrit Chaudhary and Krisha Bahadur BC in connection to the case in which 35 bovines were killed.
The 291 bovines taken to Sirsthan of Bhairawai rural municipality 1 in Dailekh from Nepalgunj-based Kanji House (temporary shelter for the stray cattle) were pushed over the cliff in Bureni, Subbanaka and Katkuwa of Birendranagar Thursday night.
The bovines were ferried in eight trucks Thursday night. The police had arrested the drivers of five trucks and two helpers when they were returning after pushing the bovines.
DSP Ravi Rawal said search is on for drivers of the remaining three trucks, inspector of municipal police of Nepalgunj Surya Bogati and others involved in the incident.
The Karnali Province, meanwhile, has formed a three-member committee under SP with the Karnali Police Bhola Rawal to probe the incident.
The Surkhet Police will handle the case of killings of cows while the committee will probe how the bovines got through the police checkposts.
