Lalitpur Metropolitan City has announced public holiday to mark the 100th birthday of Satya Mohan Joshi. It will also celebrate his birth centenary for a year.
Lalitpur Mayor Chiri Babu Maharjan said there will be celebrations for a year starting from his birthday on May 13 as per the decision of the second municipal council. "Satya Mohan Joshi is a national treasure. His incomparable contribution has been important for development of arts, culture and literature in the country. His contribution to provide recognition for Nepal through arts, culture and literature is incomparable," Maharjan stated.
Lalitpur has said the decision to mark Joshi's centenary was taken in honor of the invaluable contribution by a person born to a simple family to lift the prestige of the country through his personal hard work.
A cultural birthday rally will be started from Mangal Bazar and reach the metropolis office at Pulchowk via Lagankhel and Jawalakhel on the first day of the festival on May 13. A special program will be organized at the metropolis premises in his honor.
The metropolis will also take initiative to include Joshi's biography in school curriculum, issue postal tickets and silver coins with his image, put a banner with his image at the top of Mt Everest among others.
