Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli bid adieu to a government team on an expedition to the world’s highest peak Mount Everest amidst a program here Wednesday.
The team comprising Survey Department’s technical staffs Khimlal Gautam; Rabin Karki, Suraj Singh Bhandari and Yuba Raj Dhital will (re)measure the height of Mount Everest.
Chhiring Jangbu Sherpa, Pemangima Sherpa, Aangpasang Sherpa; Angbu Sherpa and Keshab Poudel are guiding the expedition team.
The government's efforts aim to measure ‘exact’ height of Everest amid debates that there might be a change in its height following various reasons like devastating earthquake of 2015. Everest was measured 8,848 meters many years ago.
On the occasion, the prime minister offered them tika and garlands to the team members.
According to the prime minister, the government is sending sole Nepali team to (re)measure the height of the mountain for the first time in history and the result will be official data of the government.
He wished for the success of the team, urging the climbers to follow the commands of the team guides on their expedition.
Stating that the mountain climbing was really a challenging mission, he urged the expedition team to be careful of weather and their health while climbing.
