The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) is gearing up to implement smart parking system at five various places along the New Road and its surrounding places beginning from Nepali New Year.
The KMC collaborating with the Wheels Truly Yours Pvt Ltd is starting the smart parking system at five different places including at the back of Rameshwor Sweets, in front of Bishal Bazar on the way to Indra Chowk road, Dharmapath, Pako and in front of RB Complex.
With the implementation of this system, one can check out about parking space via mobile phone and can book if space is available.
IT engineer at Wheels Truly Yours Pvt Ltd Harish Agrawal said that parking booking will be valid for only 15 minutes.
LED screens will be installed in the parking places to inform the vehicle owners about the state of parking. Those who have not reserved the space at parking can reserve the unoccupied space by checking it out on screen.
Two-wheelers should pay Rs 25 per hour for parking, four-wheelers Rs 60 and vehicles with more than six wheels Rs 200 per hour.
The KMC said that around 800 motorbikes and 40 vehicles can be parked at a time in these places.
Agrawal informed that as many as 14 parking attendants will be recruited with GoPro cameras on their bodies for parking management.
One has to download "Park KTM" app in the mobile phone to receive such service. Agrawal revealed that this app will be made available in android mobiles and app stores before the start of Nepali New Year.
KMC Mayor Bidhya Sundar Shakya said that parking management has been given top priority in Kathmandu city and this new planning is brought into effect.
"Many people are annoyed trying to find parking space for their vehicles in New Road," Shakya said, "The transportation system will witness a drastic change only when parking space can be made easily available."
