The then chief of Kanchanpur Police Dilli Raj Bista has surrendered before the Kanchanpur District Court in the case charging him and seven other police personnel of negligence and destruction of evidence during investigation of the rape and murder case of 13-year-old Nirmala Panta of Kanchanpur.
The Nepal Police had filed the case on March 6 accusing the eight police personnel of negligence and destruction of evidence during investigation. Bista was absconding after the case was registered.
He has surrendered to the court on Tuesday and his statement will be recorded Tuesday itself, according to registrar at the court Hari Krishna Awasthi.
The hearing about whether to keep Bista in custody for investigation or release him on date will be conducted by Justice Rajendra Acharya after his statement is recorded.
Panta's body was found in a sugarcane field on July 27, 2018. Some of the police personnel involved in the investigation of the case were relieved from their job while some are suspended after finding out their involvement in damaging evidences and fabricating suspects.
