A case has been filed against eight police personnel including the then chief of Kanchanpur Police Dilli Raj Bista for negligence in investigation of the rape and murder case of 13-year-old Nirmala Panta of Kanchanpur.
The Nepal Police has filed the case at the Kanchanpur District Court on Wednesday naming the eight police personnel including suspended SP Bista and suspended DSP Angur GC as defendants.
The court will start recording the defendants' statement from Thursday itself. "But their lawyers have demanded preliminary hearing at first," registrar at the District Court Hari Krishna Awasthi said.
Six of the total eight defendants have already produced themselves before the District Court. But suspended SP Bista and DSP Angur GC, who had gone from Kathmandu for investigation, have yet to go to the court. Police have termed them fugitive.
Registrar Awasthi informed that the court will issue a notice ordering them to appear before the court giving a deadline.
Panta's body was found in a sugarcane field on July 27, 2018. Some of the police personnel involved in the investigation of the case were relieved from their job while some are suspended after finding out their involvement in damaging evidences and fabricating suspects.
