The Lalitpur District Court on Friday has convicted three men in the Godamchaur rape case.
A single bench of district justice Dhan Singh Mahara has found Raghu Silwal, Pawan Kunwar and Bishal Dhwaj Karki guilty in the case and convicted them for 10 years each on charge of rape and attempt to murder.
They have also been ordered to pay compensation of Rs 100,000 each to the victim.
The court has based its verdict on the written statement lodged by the victim with the police and the fact that she identified the three men in person.
A woman of Godamchaur, Godavari municipality 1 was raped in the evening on November 18, 2017 while returning home. She was found unconscious under a bridge nearby the next morning with head injury, broken right hand, torn right ear and without clothes beneath her waist.
She named the three persons and said they raped her when she regained consciousness a week later.
The three were arrested by Satdobato Police after that but the Lalitpur District Court on December 31, 2017 released them on date citing lack of necessary evidence.
The three and their families started to threaten the victim and her family after being released on date.
But the Patan High Court on February 8, 2018 ruled that the Lalitpur District Court's order to release the three on date was not in accordance to the law.
The three men absconded after the High Court's order but were later arrested by the police.
