A demand has been made for establishing an area administration office at Galkot of Balgung.
The establishment of office has been demanded for delivery of services relating to the citizenship, passport, land revenue and survey at the local level.
Local people's representatives, political parties and social activists have joined hands in a bid to make authorities concerned obliged to address the need.
A seven-member all-party committee has been formed under the coordination of Communist Party of Nepal (CPN)'s leader Phamlal Nyure to press authorities concerned to address the demand and facilitate the process towards that end. "We have planned to sit for talks and discussions first, and they will approach the center with our demand," Nyure said, adding that support and cooperation from every quarter was expected.
The committee demands the establishment of the office incorporating Galkot municipality and Tarakhola rural municipality as its working areas.
Even after the formation of local governments following completion of the local-level elections about one and half year ago, the people of Galkot are still required to visit the district headquarters for specific administrative works.
Galkot municipality-3 (ward) chair Birjung Bhandari described the demand as genuine and highlighted the need of addressing it.
Galkot lies at a distance of 45 kilometers from the district headquarters Baglung. Such services are available at the local level in the west Burtibang in the district through an integrated service center.
