The locals in the northern part of Siraha district were compelled to stay up the whole night to chase away the wild elephants often enter their settlements at night and wreck havoc in their locality.
The wild animals coming out from the Chure Forest to the adjoining places including Jamdaha, Musaharniya and Golagaun in Golbazar Municipality-3 at night wantonly destroy locals' houses and toilets.
Furthermore, the wild beasts also cause damage to the crops and vegetable farming. Locals gather in a small group and make bonfire to chase away the wild mammoth, according to Golbazar Municipality-3's ward chairperson Dhan Prasad Moktan.
The elephants had gobbled up around 7 quintal of maize stocked by Laxman Rai ,30 kg of rice stashed by Prakash Mallik while three houses were already damaged by the elephants, shared Moktan.
The locals here are terrorized as the wild elephants continue to destroy houses and crops and attempt to attack people.
Wild elephant menace has also hit the southern places in Dhangadimadi Municipality -13 in the district since three days. Houses of Bhulkiya Jogi and Rajendra Lala and Sube Yadav have been damaged by the tuskers, according to ward chairperson Surya Man Tamang.
