The Province 3 government has decided to declare public holiday on Wednesday for the Martyrs' Day celebrated on Magh 16 of Nepali calendar.
The provincial Cabinet meeting on January 23 decided to declare public holiday to mark the Martyrs' Day.
However, the public holiday announced by the provincial government is unlikely to be implemented in the central capital Kathmandu.
Province 3 Internal Affairs and Law Minister Salikram Jamarkattel said the public holiday will be implemented across the province. "The public holiday is declared by the province. It will be implemented across the province," Minister Jamarkattel told Setopati,"We have also informed the central the Home Ministry about the holiday."
Meanwhile, Home Ministry Spokesperson Ram Krishna Subedi said the public holiday announced by the province will not be implemented in the central capital.
"There might be holiday in other districts excluding Kathmandu Valley. The public holiday announced by province will not be implemented in the three districts of Kathmandu Valley," Subedi told Setopati.
The offices in other provinces under the center government have remained open even during the public holidays announced by the respective provincial governments in the past. Subedi said academic institutions and banks are under the central government and hence public holiday will not be implemented at the center.
