The government has started process of procuring a set of train to operate in the Jayanagar-Janakpur-Kurtha route.
Director General (DG) at the Department of Railways Balaram Mishra said proposal has already been sent to the Indian government for procurement of train. "Government-owned company manufactures train in India. We have sent a proposal," Mishra told Setopati. "They have yet to reply whether they have trains to sell now or not. The response may come in a few days."
The Cabinet meeting some days back had allocated Rs 500 million to buy trains. Two sets of trains worth Rs 1 billion will be needed in the Jayanagar-Janakpur-Kurtha but the government allocated budget for just one set in the first stage.
The government was preparing to rent trains for the route but has decided to buy trains as Prime Minister (PM) KP Sharma Oli was in favor of buying the trains.
Laying of track for the 35-kilometer Jayanagar-Janakpur-Kurtha route has already been completed. The government plans to start operation of trains in the route within six months.
