The Kaski District Court has sentenced Kusum Paudel for life for murdering a nine-year-old girl after rape.
A bench of District Justice Yogendra Shah has slapped life sentence on Paudel, 27, of Pokhara Metropolitan City 22 as per clause 41(f) of the new Criminal Code.
The new Criminal Code, that has come into effect since mid-August, has provision of jailing those guilty of murder after rape until they die. This is the first verdict on murder after rape since it came into effect.
Paudel had raped a nine-year-old girl of Pokhara 22 while she had gone to buy biscuits from a shop near her home, according to the District Attorney's Office. Paudel had first strangulated the girl and then killed her by hitting her head with a stone after she resisted during the course of rape, according to the office.
Paudel was arrested the next day after he dumped the body in a bush nearby. He will now have to stay in prison until he dies.
