One need not go to Tribhuvan University Central Library to apply for the International Standard Book Number (ISBN).
Chief of the TU Central Library Indra Prasad Adhikari said that the Central Library which is the authorized body for issuing ISBN in Nepal would now accept online application for ISBN.
Before this, the author or publisher of the books had to visit the TU Central Library to apply for the ISBN. The applicant will have to pay the tariff for the ISBN via bank after filling up the application form online.
The TU Central Library has been, as the representative of the ISBN, UK, issuing the ISBN to books published from Nepal since 2000.
According to the Chief Librarian Adhikari, the Central Library has issued ISBN to 40,000 books so far.
The Central Library charges Rs 300 for the ISBN.
Meanwhile, the Central Library is to use the ‘Radio frequency identification auto-system’ for searching books in the library.
A radio sensor device would be used for searching a particular book in the library. The radio sensor locates the book with the help of the digital chips installed in every book, Adhikari said.
TU Central Library is bringing this device into use from this year with the support of the University Grants Commission. The TU Central Library has around 400,000 books.
