Four of a family killed in fire in Shivagunj, Jhapa

Four members of a single family have been killed in a fire in Shivagunj of Shivasatakshi municipality 7, Jhapa Sunday night. Laxman Khanal, 34, his wife Radhika, 28, their four-year-old daughter Chandra Khanal and five-month son Tikaram were burnt to death in the fire that started at their house at around 10:30 in the night, according to District Police Office, Jhapa. The quartet could not come out of the house once the fire started. Neighbor Geeta Dhungel has also been injured after a gas cylinder in the kitchen exploded in the fire. “It was a wooden house. There was a tractor and thresher in the courtyard. They had also apparently stored 40 liters of diesel,” Chief of Jhapa Police Bhim Dhakal said. “The fire likely was triggered by electric short-circuit. We are investigating the incident.” Locals said they knew about the fire only after it had spread around the house. Ward Chairman Navin Ijam said the four had already died when the fire engine from Damak municipality doused the fire.
